What a maintenance visit should accomplish
A standby generator may spend most of its life waiting. Scheduled care gives a technician an opportunity to identify visible deterioration, service model-specific items and evaluate how the system is operating before the next outage. An oil change alone does not tell the whole story.
GenTech works with Briggs & Stratton, Generac, Kohler and Cummins standby systems. The generator model, service history, operating hours and observed condition guide the work. Parts are not automatically replaced on every visit regardless of model or condition.
Mechanical care and complete-system attention
- Review available controller information, service history and reported concerns.
- Inspect battery and charging-system condition and look for signs of leaks, wear or corrosion.
- Service oil, filters, spark plugs, coolant, belts or other applicable items according to the equipment requirements and agreed scope.
- Assess enclosure condition, hinges, locks, debris, vegetation, airflow, drainage and ground conditions.
- Document findings and recommended follow-up rather than treating every observation as a completed repair.
Two visits, different service priorities
GenTech’s maintenance approach combines a primary full-maintenance visit with a separate checkup that gives more attention to cleaning, enclosure and perimeter care. The visits overlap, but have different priorities. Your agreement should identify what is included, the visit schedule and how additional work is handled.

When to arrange service
Use the manufacturer’s manual and your technician’s recommendations to plan service; do not apply one universal interval to every model. Contact GenTech if a service reminder is overdue, the generator has run extensively, an exercise was missed, or the equipment’s history is unknown. An active fault belongs in a diagnostic conversation, not simply on the next routine-maintenance list.
Questions homeowners ask
Is cleaning the same as mechanical maintenance?
No. Cleaning and enclosure care complement inspection, model-specific maintenance and testing. Cosmetic appearance alone does not establish reliable operation.
Can you service a generator you did not install?
GenTech specializes in existing standby generators. Share the brand, model and current concern so we can discuss the appropriate service.
Do you install new generators?
No. GenTech focuses on maintenance, inspections, diagnostics and repair of existing standby systems.
